Slate, Tile and Lead Roof Repairs
Repairing a roof requires a deep understanding of all modern and traditional roofing disciplines. This knowledge is drawn from the technical advice for slating BS 5534:2003 Code of practice for slating and tiling and to operative experience working on traditional roofs. Failures in all types of roofing are due to a diverse range of possibilities, and the targeted repair should be sympathetic to the original fabric of the building with a consideration to the original fault.
In our experience, this operative skillset takes two years to gain and there is no one training scheme available to teach proper repair techniques
Roofs are generally difficult areas to reach. Work generally requires expensive design scaffolding or large MEWPS on soft ground. IRATA Rope access techniques coupled with traditional roofing ladders is the perfect way to carry out large scale repairs.
Vertex Heritage and Specialist Roofing use only experienced IRATA qualified NVQL2 qualified roofers to carry out our repairs on churches, hospitals, schools and homes. Vertex Heritage leadership team has been working in roof maintenance for 20 years and are specialists in supplying concise, targeted means of repair.
Modern Roofing
As conservation roofers we understand the brilliance of a traditional roof but understand why cost effective modern roofing techniques have been developed to circumvent the problem of dwindling local roofing material. Through this transition of old to new roofing methods, a series of common roofing defects have been identified within the industry. Some notable examples are;
Verge cracking between undercloaking and tiles/slates
Cement work failing in valley cuts
Loose ridge tiles
‘Slate Chatter’, where slates nailed with slippery aluminium and copper slowly pull loose and snap off
Condensation issues do to poor ventilation design
Broken Guttering
Vertex Heritage has developed efficient and innovative methods to rectify these faults ensuring a costly re-roof is not necessary.
Traditional roofs are capable of functioning for an impressive amount of time. Isolated patch repairs are a common requirement which can be repaired with reclaimed stock to match the original.
